Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh wave of appointments into the governing councils of several federal institutions across Nigeria, with new members assigned to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
This announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, in an official statement released on Wednesday. The appointments, which take effect immediately, aim to fill existing vacancies and strengthen governance in tertiary institutions ahead of upcoming academic and administrative reforms.
Among the new appointees are Chidi Nwogu from Imo State to the African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja; Dr. Folashade Kareem from Kwara State to the University of Jos, Plateau State; and Dipe Adeniyi from Lagos State to the Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom.
The list also includes appointments to several newly established institutions such as the Federal University of Health Sciences in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, where Muyideen Balogun from Ogun State has been named as a council member.
A wide regional representation is evident across the board. For instance, Babatunde Jinadu (Lagos) will serve at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, while Chijioke Okeifufe (Enugu) joins the Federal University in Dutse, Jigawa. Similarly, Isa Song (Adamawa) and Bernard Miko (Rivers) are to serve at the Federal University in Gashua, Yobe.
In polytechnics, appointments include Shehu Kagara (Kaduna) to Federal Polytechnic, Isuochi in Abia; Dr. Francis Ogbise (Bayelsa) to Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra; and Rahila Ilegbodu (Taraba) to the Federal Polytechnic in Orogun, Delta State.
Other notable assignments feature names such as Waidi Ayinla (Osun) at Federal Polytechnic, Offa, and Adekola Aliu (Osun) at Federal Polytechnic, Daura. Several colleges of education also received new council members, including Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe) at Gwoza in Borno State, and Sani Anka (Zamfara) at the Special College of Education, Oyo.
The newly appointed council members are expected to contribute to policy oversight, infrastructure planning, and strategic development of their respective institutions, as Nigeria’s higher education sector moves toward modernization and global competitiveness.
