President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the critical role of the creative economy in driving his administration’s economic diversification agenda, pledging to position Nigeria’s creative sector as a global powerhouse.
Speaking during the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival at Eagle Square, Abuja, President Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, highlighted the carnival as a reflection of Nigeria’s identity as a nation of culture, art, color, and shared values.
A statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), noted that the event, themed “Carnival of Renewed Hope: A Pledge to My Country,” underscored the administration’s commitment to cultural diplomacy. Performances from across Nigeria and international participants showcased the country’s rich artistic diversity.
The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Abuja International Carnival Secretariat, received praise for their efforts in organizing the event.
Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Oraelumo Raphael, described the carnival as a unique platform involving Nigeria’s 36 states, the FCT, and international contributors. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s role as the coordinating body and the FCT’s role as host of the annual celebration.
The Abuja International Carnival continues to be a vibrant showcase of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, fostering global collaboration and promoting cultural understanding.
