Tinubu approves N25,000 allowance for doctors

President Bola Tinubu has approved the payment of N25,000 peculiar allowance for medical and dental doctors in hospitals, medical centres and clinics in the federal public service.

This is contained in a circular dated July 25, 2023, and signed by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta.

“The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has approved the review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for Health Professionals in the Federal Public Service with effect from 1st June 2023, ” the circular read.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors had on Wednesday embarked on an indefinite strike demanding the immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund, upward review of consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS) among other demands.

Also in their list of demands is the settlement of arrears of the consequential adjustment of minimum wage for doctors who were omitted from the initial implementation.

The decision came after the expiration of a two-week ultimatum issued to the federal government earlier in July, urging them to fulfil their promises.
