President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Olatunji Bello as the new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), pending Senate confirmation.
The announcement was made in a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. Mr. Bello is an accomplished administrator, renowned journalist, and lawyer, having been called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.
Mr. Bello, who previously served as the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos. His journalism career began in 1985 at Concord Newspapers, where he held several key positions, including Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor, and Editor of National Concord.
An awardee of the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship, Mr. Bello was appointed Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001. He has also served as Commissioner for Environment in Lagos State under various administrations.
The statement expressed the President’s confidence that Mr. Bello will effectively fulfill the FCCPC’s mandate to protect and promote the interests and welfare of Nigerian consumers.
