Tijani moves to enhance broadband penetration nationwide.

Nigeria _ The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has emphasized the need for collaboration to strengthen the National Broadband Alliance for Nigeria (NBAN) and enhance broadband penetration and accessibility across the country.

At the inauguration of NBAN in Lagos, Dr. Tijani noted that a single entity cannot achieve the goal of extending broadband penetration to all parts of the country, hence the need for a collective effort.

The alliance aims to prioritize areas with limited broadband coverage, addressing the digital divide and promoting digital inclusion. Dr. Tijani identified barriers to broadband access, including limited access to devices, lack of awareness, inadequate digital literacy, cumbersome regulatory processes, and power supply challenges. He commended pilot states, such as Edo, Ogun, and Kwara, for their support in expanding broadband services.

Yunusa Ya’u, Executive Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), highlighted that approximately 30 million Nigerians reside in digitally unconnected communities, emphasizing the need for alternative solutions, such as community-centered connectivity initiatives, to address connectivity gaps.
