Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has taken stringent action against three private jet operators found in breach of regulations by conducting commercial flights. Chris Najomo, the Acting Director General of NCAA, issued a stern warning to all airlines, emphasizing the immediate suspension of the permits of these operators during a recent announcement.
The decision stems from a directive issued by Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, in 2023, which explicitly prohibited the commercial use of private jets. Despite this directive, the implicated operators persisted in their activities, prompting the recent crackdown.
Najomo highlighted previous warnings issued by NCAA in March 2024, cautioning permit holders against engaging in commercial activities. The authority has since intensified monitoring efforts, leading to the discovery of the violations by the three operators.
In accordance with its commitment to upholding aviation regulations, NCAA swiftly suspended the Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) permits of the offenders. Additionally, the authority mandated a re-evaluation of all non-commercial flight permit holders, with a deadline set for April 19, 2024.
Furthermore, NCAA emphasized the necessity for compliance among Air Operator Certificate (AOC) holders, stressing that only aircraft listed in the Operation Specifications of the AOC were permitted for charter services. A stringent process was outlined for AOC holders intending to utilize aircraft for charter operations.
In a final directive, NCAA advised the public to prioritize airlines with valid Air Operator Certificates, ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
