Three More Arrested in Connection with Plateau Killings

Plateau state, Nigeria: The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of three additional suspects linked to the recent spate of violence in Plateau State, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks involved in arms trafficking and violent crimes.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police disclosed that one of the suspects, identified as Abubakar Jibrin from Kalone Community in Shendam Local Government Area, was apprehended on May 3 during an intelligence-driven operation. He was found in possession of a prohibited submachine gun with an empty magazine, recovered at his residence.

Further investigations led to the recovery of two locally fabricated revolver rifles on May 4 in Barkin Ladi. These weapons were traced to ammunition linked with a suspect currently in custody, identified as Ismail Danjuma, who is reportedly cooperating with ongoing inquiries.

The arrests come amid heightened security concerns and rising public outcry over persistent attacks in the state. In response, Christian leaders, led by Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Polycarp Lubo, held peaceful demonstrations demanding urgent action to end the violence and abductions.

Reacting to the situation, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has introduced new security directives aimed at restoring order. These include a ban on night grazing from 7 p.m., prohibition of cattle transport by vehicle, and a motorcycle curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. across the state.

Meanwhile, the national CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has urged citizens to support peacebuilding efforts and avoid actions that could undermine national security initiatives, particularly in the volatile Middle Belt region.
