Not fewer than 15 people have lost their lives, and 78 others have been injured after an earthquake struck Western Afghanistan.
According to officials, the earthquake, measuring 6.3 magnitude, originated approximately 40 kilometers from the western city of Herat, near the border with Iran, around 11:00 local time .
The incident resulted in significant damage to several buildings, leading to individuals being trapped under rubble,
The earthquake was followed by at least three powerful aftershocks.
Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Herat, described the terrifying experience, while speaking with AFP “We were in our offices, and suddenly the building started shaking.
Wall plasters started to fall down, and the walls got cracks, some walls and parts of the building collapsed.” He added.
The city’s main hospital is currently treating more than 70 injured individuals, as reported by a health official.
