There was tension in Imo State on Monday as gunmen shot dead two policemen and a civilian at Ahiara Junction in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area.
The attackers opened fire on the cops who were in uniform, and two policemen were killed on the spot while a stray bullet killed a passer-by.
An eyewitness, who confirmed the incident, said, “The attack came at the time the new commissioner of police in the state, Danjuma Aboki, was in the area on a morale boosting visit to his officers in Mbaise.”
When contacted, Henry Okoye, the state police spokesperson, informed our correspondent that the Command has launched a manhunt for the evading suspects.
“The Imo State Command Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, Commander of the 34th Artillery Brigade, and Joint Task Force (JTF) operatives are searching the crime scene for evidence that could potentially result in the arrest of criminals accountable for the attack and death of two police officers at Ahiara Junction, in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State,” he stated.
