Two teenagers named Jelili and Babatunde were recently apprehended by members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service for stealing a high-tension electricity cable in Arola village in Ede, Osun State.
The suspects were caught in the act around 3:30 pm in the bush in Arola village by the security personnel who had been monitoring their activities in the area for some time.
According to a security source present during the arrest, the suspects had successfully cut an electricity cable from high-tension poles in the area and were about to flee the scene before being apprehended.
The security source emphasized that the hunters had been keeping a close watch on the suspects and were able to catch them in the act due to their familiarity with the terrain.
The first suspect, Babatunde, and the second suspect, Akeem, both 19 years old, were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.
Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the NSCDC in Osun State, confirmed that the suspects were in their custody and that the investigation was ongoing. She mentioned that the suspects could potentially be taken to court on Thursday.
