Teenage Man Utd player Mainoo receives his debut call-up to the England national team.

Manchester United’s rising star, 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, has received his first call-up to the England squad for their upcoming friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium. Mainoo, who has made a significant impact in his breakthrough season with United, has been a standout performer in central midfield with 20 impressive appearances. This promotion to the senior England squad comes as they prepare for Euro 2024.

Initially selected for the England Under-21 squad, Mainoo has now been elevated to Gareth Southgate’s senior team. The England Football Association confirmed Mainoo’s call-up in a statement on Tuesday. In the lead-up to the European Championship in Germany, England will face Brazil at Wembley on Saturday and host Belgium on March 26, providing Mainoo with an opportunity to showcase his talent and compete for a spot in the Euros squad.

Southgate has praised Mainoo’s progress, highlighting his versatility and attacking abilities. The young midfielder, who joined United at the age of nine, made his debut in a League Cup match against Charlton in 2023. Since then, he has continued to impress, earning his first start against Everton last year and scoring his first goal for the club in an FA Cup victory over Newport in January. Southgate has expressed his admiration for Mainoo’s promising career and looks forward to monitoring his development as he progresses.
