A tragic tanker explosion has claimed the lives of more than 30 people along the Baddegi-Agaie Road in Dendo community, Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State. The devastating accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.
According to a statement by Abdullahi Baba-Arab, Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), the incident happened when a tanker collided head-on with a truck carrying cattle. Following the collision, the tanker ignited, causing a fire that spread to other vehicles involved in the crash.
Three heavy-duty vehicles and a pick-up van were completely consumed by the flames. Both people and animals were burned beyond recognition.
One survivor, still in shock, recounted that they had begun their journey from Kano State before the accident occurred.
In the aftermath of the disaster, a mass burial was organized for the victims by the Katcha Local Government Council, with officials from the State Emergency Management Agency and security personnel present. Mohammed Zakari Essa, the Vice Chairman of Katcha LGA, and Abdulmalik Bala Ibrahim, the representative of Katcha constituency, expressed their condolences, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate.
