Suspect caught hiding in ceiling trying to hack bank database

Abuja, Nigeria:A suspected cybercriminal was apprehended after allegedly attempting to infiltrate the internal systems of a commercial bank located in the Secretariat area of Abuja.

According to media sources, the individual gained unauthorized access to the bank premises during non-operational hours. Upon entry, he reportedly locked himself in the restroom before climbing into the suspended ceiling, where he remained hidden for several hours.

The suspect is believed to have used the concealed crawl space above the bank’s main hall to stay out of sight overnight and into the early morning, undetected by departing staff.

The attempted breach came to light when a suspicious system prompt—reading “Restarting, click OK to accept”—appeared on the bank’s network. This triggered alarm among security personnel, who then forcibly entered the locked restroom.

Upon inspection of the ceiling area, the suspect was discovered crouching above the office spaces, allegedly in the midst of trying to access the bank’s digital infrastructure.

An employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “He was in the ceiling all night, trying to take control of the systems.”

Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
