Abuja, Nigeria–Nigeria’s Super Falcons have cemented their dominance in African women’s football, with four of their standout players named in the Best XI of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie were included in the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) team of the tournament, following Nigeria’s triumphant campaign that saw them secure a record 10th WAFCON title.
Ajibade emerged as the tournament’s Best Player, having been named Woman of the Match in three of Nigeria’s six matches. Her consistent performances and leadership were key to the Super Falcons’ success.
Forward Esther Okoronkwo also impressed, contributing two goals and four assists throughout the competition. She capped off her performance by earning Woman of the Match honours in the final, where she both scored and assisted in Nigeria’s 2–0 win.
Chiamaka Nnadozie was named Best Goalkeeper after keeping four clean sheets, further solidifying her reputation as one of Africa’s top shot-stoppers.
Defender Michelle Alozie, a fan favorite, delivered a crucial moment in the semi-finals, netting a late winner against South Africa to send Nigeria into the final. Her performance earned her a deserved place in the tournament’s elite lineup.
The WAFCON Best XI also featured Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak and Ibtissam Jraidi; South Africa’s Bambanani Mbane, Karabo Dhlamini, and Refiloe Jane; along with Ghanaian stars Portia Boakye and Grace Asantewaa.
The strong showing by the Super Falcons reflects their continued dominance and depth, reinforcing their status as the most successful team in African women’s football history.
