Ogun state,Nigeria : Nigeria’s Super Falcons claimed a 2–0 win over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in an international friendly held on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Despite challenging weather conditions, team captain Rasheedat Ajibade led by example, netting both goals in the first half. She opened the scoring in the 28th minute from the penalty spot, before doubling the lead in the 43rd minute, finishing off a swift attacking move assisted by Rinsola Babajide.
Head coach Justine Madugu described the result as a valuable morale booster for his side as they continue preparations for the 13th Africa Women Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26.
Nigeria, the most successful team in the competition’s history, will be targeting a record-extending 10th title. The Falcons previously clinched the championship nine times since its official inception in 1998, and also emerged victorious in 1991 and 1995 when the tournament served solely as World Cup qualifiers.
