Straying Elephant Kills Farmer in Ogun Forest Community

Ogun State, Nigeria A middle-aged farmer, Musa Kalamu, has died after being attacked by a stray elephant from a government forest reserve in the Itasin-Imobi area of Ijebu East Local Government, Ogun State.

The incident occurred on Monday, July 28, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., while the victim was working on his farm. Kalamu, who was reportedly caught unawares, sustained severe injuries from the elephant attack and later died while being rushed to the hospital.

Confirming the development in a WhatsApp message, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP ‘Lanre Ogunlowo, stated that the matter had been officially reported to the Ogbere Divisional Headquarters.

“The DPO Ogbere received information from Itasin community on 28/07/2025 at about 1620hrs that elephants escaped from government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu, who died on the way to the hospital,” Ogunlowo stated. “Officers of Ogun State Forestry were contacted to curtail the animals from further damage. Calm has returned to the community.”

Also reacting, the State Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, confirmed awareness of the incident, assuring that officials were already on their way to the community to assess the situation.
