The Director of Communications for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire, confirmed on Tuesday that the stranded Super Eagles players in Lagos and Abuja have arrived in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom, for their World Cup qualifiers.
According to Olajire, some Super Eagles players faced difficulties joining the rest of the team in camp due to the NLC/TUC strike, which had shut down the country’s airports on Monday. This prevented players who were supposed to connect flights to Uyo from Lagos and Abuja from traveling.
In a statement, the NFF noted that “a total of 15 players trained on Monday morning in Uyo.” Head Coach Finidi George emphasized to the players the importance of securing the three points in Friday’s encounter.
The statement also mentioned that defenders Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Calvin Bassey, along with midfielder Frank Onyeka and forward Paul Onuachu, were already in the country.
Olajire confirmed that these players landed at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo aboard a private jet arranged by the NFF and were transported to the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort to join their teammates for lunch.
“We can confirm that defenders Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Calvin Bassey, alongside midfielder Frank Onyeka and forward Paul Onuachu, have arrived in Uyo. They were flown in by a private jet arranged by the NFF and have joined their teammates at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort,” Olajire said.
