Spy Policeman Arrested for Involvement in Politics While in Uniform

The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended a spy policeman, wearing the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), who was seen in a viral video engaging in political activities while dressed in a Police Spy uniform. The officer was urging the public in Edo State to take action against Governor Godwin Obaseki.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police condemned the unauthorized political comments made by the individual, clarifying that he is a Supernumerary (Spy) Police Officer and not a regular member of the force.

Adejobi further explained that the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the man’s arrest and directed a thorough investigation to uncover the motives behind his actions.

“The Nigeria Police Force is aware of a video showing a person in a Spy Police uniform making political remarks regarding the upcoming Edo State elections, which has been circulating online,” Adejobi stated. He emphasized that the individual is not a regular officer, but a Supernumerary Police Officer employed by a private company.

Supernumerary Police Officers, also known as Spy Officers, are privately employed and trained by the Nigeria Police for specific security roles, often within their workplaces. Adejobi noted that although these officers are not on the police payroll and have the right to participate in political activities, wearing their official uniform while engaging in politics is unacceptable.

The arrested officer is now under investigation, with the Police reiterating that his political comments do not represent the views of the Nigeria Police Force. Adejobi urged the public to disregard such remarks and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to professionalism, neutrality, and upholding the rule of law.

The new Police Spy uniform, which the officer was wearing in the viral video, was only recently launched at Force Headquarters in Abuja two weeks ago.
