Leaders from the southern region have called on President Bola Tinubu to disregard political detractors aiming to hinder the efforts of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a press briefing in Abuja, representatives of the Citizens Network for Peace and Development in Nigeria (CNPDN) praised President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Wike as FCT Minister, describing it as one of the administration’s best moves.
The group emphasized that Wike has accomplished in nine months what some predecessors failed to achieve in eight years. “Wike has made significant progress in just nine months. We recognize that some individuals are trying to distract him, but he remains focused on developing Abuja, ignoring the crisis in Rivers State,” they stated.
They continued, “In his short tenure, Wike has transformed the FCT. We stand with him and support his mission to replicate his success from Rivers State. We urge him to disregard those attempting to derail his efforts.”
The Southern leaders expressed confidence in President Tinubu and Wike’s ability to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting their swift progress. Chief Raphael Okorie, National Coordinator of the Southern movement, appealed for patience from Nigerians as President Tinubu works to stabilize the economy, enhance security, and provide relief to citizens.
“During Jonathan’s administration, our economy thrived with high foreign direct investments. Today, we see realistic stability in the naira’s management, and FDI is growing steadily,” Okorie noted.
He also pointed out the government’s support for the private sector, promoting local content, and fostering an inclusive environment for all Nigerians. “Your performance in these nine months is unprecedented. We commend your courage, determination, and achievements. Before Wike’s appointment, insecurity plagued the FCT, but he addressed it within six months.”
Okorie criticized those attempting to distract Wike from fulfilling President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and urged the President to continue backing Wike. He also called on FCT residents to support Wike in his efforts to succeed.
