The Numana Community Development Organisation (NCDO) has voiced alarm over the recent unprovoked attack and killing of unarmed peasant farmers in Ambe village, Sanga Local Government Area, Kaduna State, by gunmen.
The attack, which occurred a few days ago, resulted in the deaths of six people and left many others injured and requiring medical attention.
In a statement signed by the President of the Numana people, Comrade Ahmed Gani, the community highlighted a disturbing increase in weekly kidnappings.
“To compound the already dire situation, herdsmen have taken over the ancestral lands of some of our communities, turning these areas into hotspots for the regular kidnapping of innocent farmers,” Gani stated.
He lamented the string of attacks in Sanga Local Government Area, noting specific incidents: two people killed in Lambari village on March 2, 2023; one person killed in Unguwar Madaki Arak on May 5, 2023; one person killed in Gani Sarki on August 19, 2023; and five people killed in Unguwar Ganye on February 8 this year.
“Given that the majority of our people are farmers, these repeated attacks have caused widespread panic, making them afraid to tend to their farms,” he continued.
The statement called on the Kaduna state government to deploy more security operatives to rural communities to protect residents and allow them to return to their farming activities without fear. It also urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agents.
