South-West Governors Unveil Joint Security Initiative

Lagos, Nigeria  —   The South-West Governors’ Forum has announced a landmark decision to establish a regional joint security team, leveraging technology to bolster safety across the region.

This resolution was reached during a closed-door meeting at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, attended by the six South-West governors: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Governor Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Governor Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu, the forum’s chairman, emphasized that the initiative will strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance coordination among state security agencies, local security outfits, and federal law enforcement authorities.

“Security is a top priority for us. By deploying advanced surveillance technology and creating a structured monitoring system, we aim to ensure a safer South-West for all residents,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The governors also lauded the Federal Government and the National Assembly for establishing the South-West Development Commission, with its headquarters to be situated at the historic Cocoa House in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Beyond security, the forum pledged to tackle economic challenges, particularly food inflation, by setting up a Food Inflation Joint Monitoring Team to mitigate the rising cost of foodstuffs and enhance food security in the region.

Commending President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the governors acknowledged recent efforts in stabilizing the economy, improving petroleum product supply, and implementing the Students’ Loan Scheme, which has benefited youths in the region.

The communiqué concluded with a firm commitment by the South-West Governors to deepen regional collaboration, enhance security, and drive economic growth for the collective good of the people.
