Vice President Kashim Shettima has requested the endorsement of the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, for the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebhole, in the lead-up to the Edo State gubernatorial elections set for Saturday.
During a visit to Benin City for the grand finale of the APC’s campaign, Senator Shettima made a direct appeal for the Oba’s support. He noted, “With your endorsement and the will of the people of Edo, we can usher in an era of remarkable progress and prosperity for the state.”
A statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, highlighted Shettima’s emphasis on the significant role traditional rulers play in preserving cultural heritage and contributing to national development. The Vice President also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to strengthening and recognising Nigeria’s traditional institutions.
In his response, Oba Ewuare II expressed his gratitude for the visit and sought federal assistance in the construction of the Benin Royal Museum. He also thanked the Vice President for acknowledging the importance of Benin’s rich culture and traditions and affirmed his commitment to preserving them.
