Shettima Launches Resettlement Scheme in Tudun Biri for Conflict-Affected Individuals

President Bola Tinubu has initiated the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict (RSPIC) in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, to tackle the humanitarian crisis caused by internal displacements across Nigeria.

During the groundbreaking ceremony of the project’s pilot phase, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized that “Conflict and displacement are not merely regional issues; they are national concerns that demand a unified response.”

Vice President Shettima explained that the project aims to provide long-term rehabilitation and reintegration for affected communities. He highlighted ongoing efforts to support Tudun Biri, including the construction of a six-kilometer road, a skill acquisition center, and a clinic to meet the medical needs of the residents.

In a statement, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Office of The Vice President, noted that in February, Vice President Shettima inaugurated a steering committee to oversee the initiative. This committee is chaired by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, and includes representatives from the governors of the benefiting states.

The project will initially focus on seven states: Sokoto, Kebbi, Benue, Katsina, Zamfara, Niger, and Kaduna, which have been disproportionately affected by farmers-herders conflicts.

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, described the selection of Tudun Biri for the project as “a clear demonstration of the President’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of the people of Tudun Biri and the poor, vulnerable, and underserved in our country.”

It is worth noting that on December 3, 2023, during the Maulud celebration, several Muslims were mistakenly killed, and many others injured, due to a military drone attack targeting terrorists and bandits in Tudun Biri village, Afaka ward, Rigasa District of Igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
