The Senate has passed a bill to establish the Nigeria Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta State.
The bill, sponsored by Bamidele Opeyemi representing Ekiti Central, when assented to by the President Bola Tinubu will, identify the technological problems and needs of the maritime industry, and find solutions.
The former President Muhammadu Buhari had rejected the bill for the establishment of the Maritime University of Nigeria in Delta State in May 2019, citing the excessive source of funding proposed for the university as a reason.
The Nigeria Maritime University will develop and offer academic and professional programmes leading to the award of diplomas, first degrees, post-graduate research, and higher degrees.
Senate confirms Maida as Executive Vice Chairman NCC
The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Aminu Maida as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).
This followed the presentation and adoption of a report of the Committee on Communication by the Chairman Senator Bilbis Ikra at the Committee of the Whole.
Presenting the report Senator Ikra urged the Senate to consider the request of President Bola Tinubu for the confirmation of Maida for appointment as NCC Chairman.
He said the committee had screened Dr Maida, and that he possessed the requisite qualifications and professional experience, to further ensure success of the NCC
Senator Bilbis Ikra therefore urged the senate to approve the nomination.
The Senate, thereafter confirmed the appointment of Aminu Maida, as Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC.
