Security Forces Secure Abuja’s Banex Plaza After Clashes

Security forces, including soldiers and police officers, have taken control of Banex Plaza in Abuja’s Wuse neighborhood following a violent altercation between traders and soldiers.

An anonymous trader confirmed that three soldiers were involved in a dispute over a phone issue with a trader at the complex. The trader, whose shop is located at the Old Banex complex, reported that phone dealers banded together and overpowered the soldiers and a civilian.

In a statement, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, through FCT police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the deployment of police and military personnel to restore order.

“Following a reported unrest at Banex Plaza on May 18, 2024, at approximately 1:30 PM involving plaza occupants, customers, and some soldiers, operatives from the FCT police command quickly mobilized to the scene, assessed the situation, and restored order,” the statement read.

The incident escalated due to a disagreement over a phone issue.
