In a recent operation, the Nigerian Army successfully neutralized two terrorists in Taraba State. The troops, deployed for counter-insurgency operations in the North West, conducted a raid on a kidnappers’ den in the Kuyambana general area along Road Magawa-Migetso in Zamfara State.
During the operation, two insurgents were eliminated, and a cache of weapons and kidnapping paraphernalia were seized and destroyed. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, reported that the troops also thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Kogi State, rescuing hostages, and executed a successful offensive operation in Zamfara State.
Recovered items from the operation included two AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, and 56 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The engagement with the terrorists resulted in the deaths of two insurgents in an exchange of fire.
Major General Nwachukwu emphasized that the terrorists had been known to wreak havoc in communities within the Mayinawa, Garin Daniel, and Garbatau axes in the Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State. Additionally, in Kogi State, suspected kidnappers assaulted three commercial buses on the Akpata-Obajana road in Lokoja Local Government Area.
The swift intervention by vigilant troops led to the rescue of passengers and pursuit of the criminals. Injured passengers were promptly evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Reaffirming the army’s dedication to restoring peace and stability, Major General Nwachukwu urged the public to collaborate with ongoing military operations nationwide.
Recent successes by Nigerian troops include the rescue of 35 kidnapped victims and the elimination of 2 terrorists in Katsina State. In separate incidents this month, troops also neutralized two insurgents in Sokoto and Edo states, and rescued 10 kidnapped individuals in Tsafe town, Zamfara State.
