Security Agencies Gear Up for Peaceful Protest in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has announced that security agencies are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful environment during the anticipated protest on August 1, 2024.

Addressing a joint security team of police, army, and paramilitary agencies, CP Sani emphasized the constitutional right of Nigerians to hold peaceful protests. However, he warned that any attempts to disrupt public peace or damage infrastructure under the guise of a peaceful protest would be met with decisive action from the Police Command and other security agencies.

CP Sani revealed that a thorough threat analysis had been conducted to identify potential trouble spots and troublemakers in the state. He stated that tactical police teams, in coordination with other security agencies, would be deployed to prevent any disturbances.

The Commissioner appealed to the protesters to cooperate with the police and other security agencies, adhere to the law, and follow international standards for peaceful assembly to ensure their rights are safely exercised without incident. He urged protest organizers to provide details on routes, assembly points, duration, and contact information to prevent criminal elements from hijacking the protest and to ensure adequate security measures are in place.

CP Sani assured the residents of Kebbi State that they could go about their daily activities without fear, as security agencies are fully prepared to guarantee their safety during the protest.

In addition, CP Sani presented a cheque of over 5.8 million naira from the IGP Group Life Assurance Scheme to the families of four policemen who died in the line of duty. He advised the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely for their educational and financial needs. He noted that the IGP’s gesture is not a compensation for the loss but a means to support the families and boost the morale of current officers in their efforts to combat crime in the state.
