SDP Gains More Political Defectors Ahead of 2027 Elections

NIGERIAThe Social Democratic Party (SDP) has welcomed several high-profile politicians who have defected from their previous parties to support SDP’s ambition for the 2027 elections.
Among the new members are Emiyare Etete (Rivers), Elder Chris Agu (Enugu), Anthony Umeh (Anambra), Abdulkareem Mustapha (Kwara), Capt. Ahmed Kaugama (Jigawa), and Adam Idris, a former PRP House of Representatives candidate for Kaduna North Federal Constituency.

They were officially received at the SDP national secretariat in Abuja by the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, who assured them of equal rights and full integration into the party. Gabam reaffirmed SDP’s commitment to unity and transparency, urging more Nigerians to join their movement.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Makarfi Hayatuddeen, Chairman of the former PRP Gubernatorial Candidates Forum, stated that their decision to join SDP was based on their belief in the party’s ability to transform Nigeria. He encouraged Nigerian youths and women to align with SDP, describing the defection as a “strategic realignment of progressive forces.”

The event was attended by top SDP officials, including National Secretary Olu Agunloye and members of the National Working Committee.
