The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has scheduled the local government chairmanship and councillorship elections for the 23 local government areas in the state on October 5, 2024.
RSIEC Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Rtd), made the announcement on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
The meeting was attended by representatives from political parties, civil society organizations (CSOs), the media, and security agencies.
The tenure of the previous elected chairmen and councillors ended on June 17, 2024, leading Governor Siminalayi Fubara to appoint caretaker committees for the 23 local government areas.
