Abuja, Nigeria — The House of Representatives has established an investigative committee to address the ongoing local government crisis in Osun State.
The decision followed an urgent motion of public importance sponsored by nine lawmakers from Osun, highlighting the violent clashes over local government administration.
During plenary, Hon. Bamidele Salam, leader of the Osun Caucus, recounted how attempts by previously sacked officials to reclaim office led to unrest in multiple communities. He noted that the crisis resulted in casualties, harassment, and growing political tension.
In response, the House urged the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to restore peace and order immediately.
Lawmakers also called on the Attorney General of the Federation to provide legal guidance to all parties involved, emphasizing judicial resolution over force.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring law and order while seeking a peaceful and lawful resolution to the conflict.
