Rep Adeyemi Seeks Support for New Alaafin, Oba Owoade

Oyo, Nigeria  —  Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, a prince and member representing Oyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has celebrated the ascension of Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. The lawmaker, popularly known as Skimeh, called on Yoruba monarchs and citizens to support the new king.

The congratulatory message was delivered in a personal statement released by Adeyemi following the presentation of the staff and certificate of office to Oba Owoade by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

In the statement titled “The King Has Assumed the Mantle,” Hon. Adeyemi, son of the late Alaafin Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, referred to Oba Owoade as both a brother and cousin who has now become his father.

“Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, has ascended the prestigious throne of a foremost Yoruba monarch. My cousin and brother is now my father. As you begin this sacred journey, I invoke the spirits of Oranyan, Sango, Atiba, Agunloye, Alowolodu, and Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi to strengthen and guide Your Imperial Majesty in achieving great successes on this revered throne,” Adeyemi stated.

He extended heartfelt congratulations to the new Alaafin and urged the people of Oyo, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally around their royal father.

“I call on the entire Yoruba people to warmly embrace the Iku Baba Yeye,” Adeyemi added.

Speaking in Yoruba, the lawmaker specifically appealed to notable Yoruba monarchs, including the Ooni of Ife, Alake of Egbaland, Awujale of Ijebu, Oba of Lagos, Oluwo of Iwo, Timi of Ede, Soun of Ogbomoso, and Olofa of Ofa, to support Oba Owoade in his reign.

DNEWSINFO recalls that Governor Makinde formally installed Oba Owoade as the Alaafin of Oyo on Monday, during a brief ceremony in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.
