“Renowned lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, suggests changing Nigeria’s national anthem, name, and flag”

Rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof Mike Ozekhome, has expressed his approval of Nigeria’s decision to revert to the old national anthem.

He believes that this change was long overdue and welcomed the return to the previous anthem. During a press conference, Ozekhome expressed his elation at the reintroduction of the old national anthem, which he had advocated for during the 2014 National Conference through a motion.

He emphasized that the old anthem has better lyrics in terms of content and context compared to the more recent one. In addition to the national anthem, Ozekhome suggested that the name “Nigeria” and the national flag should also be changed. The move to reinstate the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” was made official when President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law.

The decision to revert to the previous anthem has been positively received by Ozekhome and others who believe it is a step in the right direction for the country.
