Remi Tinubu Urges Global Leaders to Empower the Youth

New York, USANigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has called on global leaders and First Ladies to take decisive action in equipping young people for the future.

Speaking during Day 2 of the Third Annual Global First Partners Academy in New York, Senator Tinubu delivered an address titled “First Partners’ Role in the World: Preparing the Youth for the Future,” highlighting the urgent need for strategic collaboration in a fast-changing world.

She emphasized that the future is being shaped by major forces such as technology, climate change, migration, and new economic realities, and called on First Ladies to rise above partisan roles to become moral influencers and advocates for youth empowerment.

“We cannot wait for the future to happen; we must shape it now,” she said, quoting Abraham Lincoln.

In a statement released by her spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, Senator Tinubu reiterated the need to build mental capacity, confidence, and new mindsets among young people.

She praised the innovation and strength of Nigerian youths and affirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to youth-focused initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda and her personal Renewed Hope Initiative.

“Supporting the youth means meeting them where they are—whether in the tech space, creative industries, or governance,” she noted.

Senator Tinubu called for expanded scholarships, internships, and mentorship opportunities, as well as platforms for civic participation, stressing that adults must make intentional efforts to catch up with the evolving digital age.

She urged her fellow First Ladies to use their global platforms to address challenges affecting children, women, and youths, stressing that “no problem is insurmountable if we do the needful.”

The session included insights from former First Ladies, scholars, and experts who discussed strategies for inclusive development, AI integration, and addressing inequality.

Now in its third year, the Global First Partners Academy continues to foster dialogue and partnership among global leaders toward building a more inclusive future.
