Religion & faith but be cordial for Development – Minister

Kaduna, Nigeria  — The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has emphasized the vital connection between faith and governance, stressing that both must work in harmony to drive national development.

Speaking at the Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and Voice of Nigeria (VON) in Kaduna, Idris commended the organizers for sustaining the platform, which he described as crucial for national dialogue and reflection.

Addressing the theme, “Faith, Politics, and Power: The Involvement of Ulamas in Politics and its Implications,” the minister acknowledged the intricate relationship between religion, governance, and national unity.

“As families gather in supplication, reflection, and compassion during this sacred month of Ramadan, we must recognize that faith, politics, and power are deeply connected to our nation’s past, present, and future. Navigating this reality requires wisdom and responsibility,” he stated.

National Unity and Political Responsibility

Idris noted that political dynamics—both local and global—continue to shape national discourse, urging Nigerians to prioritize unity and stability above all else.

He praised the attendance of key dignitaries, including Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Minister of Livestock Development, Malam Idi Mukhtar Maiha; and the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.

Additionally, he lauded the contributions of esteemed Islamic scholars, Sheikh Morufu Onike Abdulazeez and Professor Ismaila Shehu, whose insights, he said, added great depth to the discussion.

National Development and Policy Direction

Highlighting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s strides, Idris urged Nigerians to use Ramadan as a time for introspection, national unity, and renewed commitment to development.

He pointed to the signing of the N54 trillion national budget, emphasizing its focus on security, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture as a major milestone in fostering growth.

The minister also praised President Tinubu’s decision to establish the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a transformational policy aimed at economic expansion and national stability.

Reiterating the importance of informed political participation, Idris encouraged Nigerians to approach governance with wisdom, responsibility, and a deep sense of duty.

“As we navigate the intersection of politics and power, it is imperative that we make informed and responsible decisions,” he remarked.

Concluding, he urged citizens to carry the values of love, compassion, and resilience beyond Ramadan, praying for divine guidance in national affairs.

“May Allah bless our families, guide our steps, and grant us wisdom in all our endeavors. Ramadan Kareem,” he said.
