Kamala Harris is currently leading Donald Trump in three crucial battleground states, according to recent polls conducted by The New York Times and Siena College.
The polls of likely voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin show Harris with a 50 percent to 46 percent lead over Trump in each state. These three Midwestern states are considered key to victory for either party under the US electoral college voting system.
This marks a reversal of previous surveys that had shown Trump either tied with or slightly ahead of former President Joe Biden, who has since dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris. The polls indicate that voters still prefer Trump on key issues such as the economy and immigration, but Harris holds a 24-point advantage on the issue of abortion.
Democrats have been encouraged by the surge of enthusiasm surrounding Harris’s candidacy, following Biden’s exit from the race. Harris’s selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate has also energized Democrats. This surge in support for the Harris-Walz ticket has helped counteract a rise in support for Trump that followed an attempt on his life in July and the Republican national convention.
Despite attacks from Trump and other Republicans, Harris has seen a significant increase in favorability, particularly in Pennsylvania, where she is viewed as more intelligent and having a better temperament to govern compared to Trump.
The polls reflect a shift in voter satisfaction with their choice of candidates, with Democrats now expressing higher satisfaction compared to Republicans in the three Midwestern states surveyed.
The surveys were conducted between August 5 and 9, with at least 600 voters participating in each state.
