Madrid, Spain. — Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has admitted that the club is feeling the absence of retired midfield maestro Toni Kroos this season.
Kroos, a former Germany international, ended his professional career after Euro 2024, bringing an end to a glittering spell at Real Madrid. Having played together from 2018 to 2024, Courtois acknowledged the void left by Kroos in the team’s midfield.
In a conversation with football pundit Rio Ferdinand, Courtois reflected on how Madrid’s gameplay has been affected by the departure of the legendary playmaker.
“Toni Kroos always knew what to do. Left foot, right foot where he already knew before receiving the ball where he would pass it,” Courtois remarked. “I think we really miss him this year.”
The Belgian shot-stopper highlighted Kroos’ composure and vision as irreplaceable qualities that gave Real Madrid control in crucial moments. Without his influence, the team has had to adapt to a different style of play.
Kroos, regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation, left behind an enduring legacy at the Santiago Bernabéu, with his absence still felt deeply within the squad.
