Asaba, Delta State— Chaos erupted at the Government House in Asaba on Friday when a cow intended for slaughter broke free and attacked staff members.
During the incident, a man in his 30s who tried to subdue the animal was seriously injured, sustaining deep wounds on his thighs. Initially treated at the Government House Clinic, he was later transferred to a hospital where he remains in critical condition. Another victim, identified only as Peter, a cook at the Government House, also suffered injuries.
Sources revealed that the first two butchers called to handle the cow fled after failing to control it. The severely injured man was reportedly the second person summoned to attempt the task.
No official comment has been released about the incident as of now.
A concerned citizen questioned the practice of bringing live animals onto Government House premises, recommending that slaughtering should be conducted in authorized, sanitary locations under proper supervision to prevent such accidents.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the event.
