In Osogbo, commercial banks and shops were closed on Thursday as part of the ongoing nationwide protest.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that commercial banks, shopping malls, and major stores were all shut down in the town. The Osun Mall was also closed, and there was a noticeable heavy presence of security personnel, including the army, police, and NSCDC, around the mall premises.
Security personnel stated that their presence was to prevent looting, which had occurred during the 2020 EndSARS protest.
Additionally, the popular Akindeko market, MDS shopping complex, and Orisunmbare market did not open for business. The state secretariat in Abere was quiet, with only a few workers present. Security personnel were stationed at various strategic locations in the state capital, and patrols were conducted on major roads. Despite this heavy security presence, there was still vehicular movement, and the atmosphere was relatively peaceful.
At the time of reporting, protesters had gathered at Freedom Park in preparation for their demonstration.
The state government had previously instructed all primary and secondary schools in the state to go on vacation due to the ongoing nationwide protests.
