Abuja, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit taking place from January 27 to 28, 2025.
The summit, organized by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, seeks to advance “Mission 300”, an ambitious initiative aimed at providing electricity to 300 million Africans by the year 2030.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, the summit was described as a crucial platform for collaboration among African leaders, private sector actors, development partners, and civil society organizations to address the continent’s energy challenges.
Key discussions will focus on expanding access to energy in underserved regions, advancing renewable energy solutions, improving energy efficiency, and mobilizing private sector investments to drive development.
The summit’s agenda includes presentations from participating countries, such as Nigeria, on their national energy strategies, referred to as “compacts”, which outline their respective roadmaps for achieving universal energy access within the next five years. On the second day, African leaders are expected to endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will establish a collective framework for realizing the objectives of Mission 300.
President Tinubu will deliver a national address reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to achieving universal energy access while emphasizing the country’s leadership in Africa’s energy sector. His speech will also highlight Nigeria’s ongoing clean energy initiatives and integrated strategies for energy delivery across the continent.
Accompanying the President on the trip are Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power; Ms. Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser on Energy; and other senior government officials.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja upon the conclusion of the summit.
