President Tinubu Seeks Approval to Assume Control of Nasarawa and Kebbi States Airports

President Bola Tinubu has formally written to the House of Representatives, requesting authorization to assume control of the recently constructed airports in Nasarawa State and Kebbi State.

The President clarified in his letter that his proposal aligns with the provisions outlined in Item 3 of the Second Schedule of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which stipulates the jurisdiction of the Federal Government over aviation matters, including airport management, aircraft safety, and passenger security.

According to the letter, the President emphasized the exclusive authority of the Federal Government of Nigeria in overseeing aviation activities and airport operations.

During the reading of the letter on the House floor by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, President Tinubu also sought approval for the reimbursement of over 9 billion Naira to the Nasarawa State Government and over 15 billion Naira to the Kebbi State government for the transition of airport ownership.

Additionally, President Tinubu urged the House of Representatives to consider and endorse concurrent resolutions for the issuance of promissory notes in favor of Nasarawa and Kebbi States, facilitating the financial transactions related to the airport takeover.

In a separate communication, President Tinubu transmitted the National Anti-Doping Bill 2024 to the House of Representatives for deliberation, in accordance with the provisions of section 58 subsection 2 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, underscoring his administration’s commitment to legislative processes and national governance.
