President Tinubu Mourns Renowned Writer Mabel Segun

Abuja, Nigeria  —  President Bola Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Mabel Segun, a revered figure in Nigeria’s literary landscape.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President commiserated with the deceased’s family, the literary community, and admirers of the iconic writer.

Ms. Segun, a prolific poet, playwright, and children’s literature pioneer, passed away on Thursday ,  barely a month after marking her *95th birthday.

Reflecting on her legacy, President Tinubu described the late author as a trailblazer whose works shaped the nation’s literary heritage.

“Her remarkable contributions to literature, particularly in children’s literature, remain an inspiration to generations of writers and readers,” the President noted.

Mabel Segun broke new ground by founding the Children’s Literature Association of Nigeria in 1978 and the Children’s Documentation and Research Centre in 1990, both based in Ibadan.

Her debut book, My Father’s Daughter, published in 1965, earned global recognition and remains a reference point for literary enthusiasts and budding writers.

President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed literary icon’s soul and asked for divine comfort for her family, friends, and the literary community.
