President Tinubu Arrives Saint Lucia for Caribbean Tour

Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia President Bola Tinubu touched down in Saint Lucia on Saturday evening, marking the beginning of his two-nation diplomatic mission to the Caribbean and South America.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.

Upon arrival at Hewanorra International Airport, President Tinubu was honored with full military protocol and warmly welcomed by Saint Lucia’s Governor-General Cyril Charles and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.

The official state visit will commence on Sunday with formal courtesy calls on both the Governor-General and the Prime Minister.

Mr. Onanuga revealed that on Monday, President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a keynote address to a special joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly. The speech will take place at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, located within the Sandals Grande Resort in Gros Islet.

The event will be attended by heads of government from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), senior Saint Lucian officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Nigeria’s diaspora in Saint Lucia, and OECS Director-General Dr. Didacus Jules.

Following the parliamentary session, President Tinubu will host a high-level working luncheon with OECS leaders, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in economic collaboration and cultural exchange.

Additionally, the Nigerian president is slated to visit Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries, aiming to foster academic partnerships and strengthen educational ties between Nigeria and Saint Lucia.

This visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to expanding diplomatic and economic engagement with Caribbean nations.

After concluding activities in Saint Lucia, President Tinubu will proceed to Brazil to participate in the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled for July 6–7.

Invited by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Nigeria attends the summit as a ‘partner country,’ reflecting its growing influence on the global stage.

The 17th BRICS Summit will concentrate on “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” with key discussions centered on enhancing cooperation among Global South nations and advancing social, economic, and environmental development through BRICS partnerships.
