President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), effective immediately. The appointment follows the commencement of pre-retirement leave by the incumbent AGF, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, highlighted the move as part of efforts to ensure seamless administration of Nigeria’s treasury and to advance ongoing reforms in the nation’s treasury policies.
Mr. Ogunjimi, a seasoned career civil servant, currently holds the position of the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF). With over three decades of financial management experience spanning both public and private sectors, he has previously served as Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An accomplished professional, Mr. Ogunjimi is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting.
The statement also conveyed President Tinubu’s confidence in Ogunjimi’s capacity to lead the OAGF, describing the office as integral to Nigeria’s treasury management operations. The President expressed optimism that Ogunjimi’s expertise will bolster the administration’s economic reform agenda.
In addition, the President commended the outgoing AGF, Dr. Madein, for her dedication and exemplary service to the nation. Dr. Madein, who is set to officially retire on March 7, 2025, after reaching the statutory retirement age, was praised for her contributions to Nigeria’s financial administration.
