Abuja, Nigeria — The Presidency has dismissed ongoing efforts by opposition groups rallying under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, describing them as politically motivated and lacking credibility.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Presidential spokesperson Mr. Sunday Dare criticized the coalition as a “disjointed and desperate” bid rooted in self-interest rather than national progress.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock until 2031,” Dare asserted. “President Tinubu is still steering a transformative agenda that is grounded in vision, stability,
and reform.”
The comment follows rising activity by opposition figures aiming to form a “Third Force” in preparation for the 2027 general elections. However, Dare maintained that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains politically unmatched and firmly rooted in national support.
He stressed that none of the leaders in the ADC-backed coalition possess the widespread trust, structure, or leadership qualities that once enabled the APC to form successfully in 2013.
“In contrast to the disciplined merger that birthed the APC, today’s coalition is a loose collection of opportunists who lack grassroots legitimacy,” Dare said. He accused the opposition of attempting to sell a “political fairy tale” to the public, warning Nigerians not to be deceived by claims of systemic injustice.
He also emphasized that the presidency rightly rests where it is, reinforcing that the nation’s leadership is not up for grabs until the end of President Tinubu’s term.
The Presidency had earlier described the opposition’s adoption of the ADC as a “copycat move” devoid of ideological direction.
“Those targeting 2027 should focus on 2031 instead,” Dare concluded. “The President’s leadership is secure, and Nigerians are witnessing his unwavering commitment to national transformation.”
