Abuja, Nigeria— The Presidency has refuted recent claims that Hadiza Bala Usman, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination, has been appointed as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The rumors also suggested that Senator George Akume, the current SGF, had been named Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), replacing Abdullah Umar Ganduje, who reportedly resigned.
However, through a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency dismissed these reports as false and urged the public to ignore them.
The statement, titled “Akume Remains SGF,” emphasized that no changes have been made to Senator Akume’s position. It read: “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently on a state visit to Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments. The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue and fabricated by agents of mischief. The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard this fake news.”
The report had sparked celebrations among some women’s groups anticipating the appointment of a female SGF, but the Presidency’s clarification confirms that the current leadership remains unchanged.
