Presidency Debunks Viral List on National Honours Award

Abuja, NigeriaThe Presidency has refuted a widely circulated list on social media claiming that President Bola Tinubu conferred national honours on activist Aisha Yesufu and 35 others.

The clarification was made by Mr. Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued via his official Facebook page.

Addressing the misinformation, Mr. Ajayi described the list as “fake news,” stressing that the names circulating online—allegedly credited to Leadership newspaper—do not reflect the actual list of awardees.

“The story on a viral list of national honours featuring the name of Aisha Yesufu and others is fake news. It should be ignored,” he stated.

The contentious document, which emerged online on Friday, sparked intense discussion, particularly among supporters of the current administration, due to the inclusion of Yesufu, a prominent government critic.

Mr. Ajayi reaffirmed that President Tinubu had, during his June 13 Democracy Day address to the joint session of the National Assembly, officially named only 66 recipients of national honours—contrary to the 102 names listed in the viral post.

He emphasized that the Presidency has not released any additional names beyond those formally announced by the President.
