Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited will complete the Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC, test run in January 2024.
The spokesperson of NNPCL, Femi Soneye, disclosed this in an interview on Thursday.
“Testing will conclude shortly, ensuring the refinery’s efficient operation. That phase will be completed this month,” he said.
The refinery is currently undergoing revamping and is expected to kickstart the processing of 60,000 barrels per day in a short period, according to the NNPCL.
The company added that it aimed to achieve a maximum capacity of 210,000 barrels per day later in the year.
The development comes as NNPCL stated that it kept its promises on mechanical completion of the Port Harcourt refinery in December last year.
Recall that in March 2021, the Nigerian Federal Executive Council approved $1.5 billion to rehabilitate the Port Harcourt Refinery.
This is as data showed that the Nigerian government has spent N11.35 trillion ($25 billion) in the past ten years on fixing the country’s three refineries.
