Uyo, Akwa Ibom — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested five suspected ritualists and cultists following a major operation at a shrine in Abak Local Government Area.
This was revealed on Tuesday at the State Command Headquarters in Uyo by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, during a press briefing.
According to her, the suspects were apprehended following a discreet investigation into a recent incident involving armed robbery and rape at a local guest house. A male victim had lodged a formal complaint, revealing that his room was attacked and his female companion sexually assaulted.
“Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, operatives raided the hideout on July 30, 2025, at about 11:10 pm, leading to the arrest of five suspects,” she disclosed.
The suspects were identified as Richard Edet Udo, Hope Iniobong Anietie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny, and Joseph Joseph.
Recovered from the shrine were two coffins filled with used female sanitary pads, photographs of victims and targets, charms, and other fetish materials.
DSP John emphasized the Command’s commitment to ensuring all members of the gang are brought to justice, assuring the public that “no stone will be left unturned in dismantling this criminal network.”
The police reiterated their resolve to protect lives and properties across the state, while investigations continue to uncover further leads.
