Police Nab 5 Over Motorcycle Theft, Cannabis Trafficking in Bauchi

Bauchi, NigeriaThe Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects linked to motorcycle theft and drug trafficking following intelligence-led operations in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil. According to him, actionable intelligence received on January 27, 2025, from a Good Samaritan, led to the arrest of Abdulhamid Auwal, alias Wala, and Aliyu Rabiu, alias Hitler, both aged 20 and residents of the Bakaro area in Bauchi metropolis.

The suspects were identified as members of a specialised motorcycle theft syndicate operating within the Bakaro axis. Acting on the tip-off, detectives under the leadership of CSP Musa Alhaji Hassan, Divisional Police Officer of A Division, apprehended the duo.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to collaborating with three accomplices to burgle the residence of Baba Karami at Unguwar Sarkin Kofa, where they carted away a Bajaj motorcycle. The stolen bike, according to police, was dismantled, packed into a sack, and sold off.

Preliminary investigations further revealed that the gang, which includes Mahmood Mahmood, alias Ankula, and another identified as Ganiya, specialises in stealing motorcycles in the area. CSP Wakil noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, after which all will be profiled and prosecuted.

In a related development, operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS), led by CSP Suleiman Tambuwal, arrested three young men during a visibility patrol on August 23, 2025, at Wuntin Dada area of Bauchi.

The suspects — Hussaini Lawal (20), Baba Sadiq Ibrahim (18), and Wada Yusuf (21) — were caught distributing dried leaves, suspected to be cannabis sativa, inside an uncompleted building near Aso Rock Mountain.

Upon interrogation, Hussaini confessed to trafficking cannabis for more than a year and volunteered information about his associates. Items recovered at the scene included half a block of suspected cannabis, six knives, two pairs of scissors, four lighters, a container of tobacco leaves (locally known as Taba), and a bunker used for storage.

While assuring residents of Bauchi State of its commitment to tackling crime, CSP Wakil reaffirmed that the Command will continue deploying intelligence-driven policing strategies to rid the state of criminal activities.
