Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, has assured the public of police neutrality in all activities related to the upcoming governorship election in the state.
He emphasized that no individual or political party would be permitted to hijack any part of the electoral process leading up to the September 16 election. Adegboye made these statements to reporters in Benin following a closed-door meeting between INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and security agencies.
The Commissioner of Police highlighted the importance of impartiality for the successful conduct of the state election and guaranteed a level playing field for all political participants. He reassured the public that there would be no incidents of hijacking during the electoral exercise and expressed confidence that unauthorized persons would not be involved in managing electoral processes.
Adegboye also pledged to ensure effective synergy among security agencies in preparing for the election, particularly in challenging terrains such as riverine areas. INEC Chairman Yakubu described the meeting as a routine engagement between INEC, security and intelligence agencies, law enforcement, and emergency services in readiness for the election.
Yakubu mentioned that discussions at the meeting covered various aspects of election preparation and addressed complaints received from some political parties. He indicated that the commission and security agencies would meet with political parties the following day to address the grievances and ensure a smooth process leading up to the election day.
Overall, both officials emphasized the importance of collaboration and fairness in conducting the electoral process in Edo State.
